Fined for stealing spray can

Nicholas Figaro, 21, appeared before Senior Magistrate Joanne O’ Connor in the Chaguanas First Magistrate Court to answer to the charge.

The charge read to the accused man alleged that on October 8, he entered the home of Maurice Greece at Carlsen Field, Chaguanas and stole a spray can value $500.

Figaro pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police court prosecutor, Sgt Ken Ali, told the court that at about 7 pm on Saturday, Greece had secured his tools at his Carlsen Field home and went away. Hours later, the court heard, Greece returned home and discovered his spray can missing.

A report was made to the Chaguanas Police Station and Figaro was later arrested. The spray can was also recovered.

Figaro told the magistrate that he was not working and was hoping to sell the spray can to acquire cash.

He was fined $3,000 or in default he is to serve six months in prison.

In another case before the same magistrate, a mechanic was fined $2,000 for possession of cocaine and a device used for smoking cocaine.

Court prosecutor Ali, told the magistrate that police officers were engaged in an anti-crime exercise in the Felicity area when they spotted Dennis Samaroo riding a bike. The court heard that the accused man appeared to be acting suspiciously. Samaroo was stopped and searched and two grammes of cocaine, along with a device used for the purpose of smoking cocaine, was found in his front right pocket.

Figaro was fined $1,000 on each charge or in default serve three months in prison with hard labour
