Inter-island ferry safety issue claims ‘incorrect’

“I ask the question: do these people have the experience and expertise to maintain these Rolls Royce engines? The lives of the people travelling between Trinidad & Tobago are at risk and this is something very concerning to us,” Lee said. Lee also called on Hinds to clarify the procurement process awarding Magellan the operation contract.

“From my understanding, if (Hinds) were to do a check on the head of this company, Alfred McMillan, he would be surprised that (McMillan) is the same gentleman who was part of the Panorama dry-docking a few years ago… we had to sell the Panorama for next to nothing,” Lee said. On Friday, October 7, Tabaquite MP Dr Surujrattan Rambhajan had also questioned the procurement procedure awarding Magellan the $240 million operation after the original operators, Candian firm Bay Ferries Ltd, ended on September 30, 2015.

Hinds said he would address statements about procurement during his contribution to the debate, scheduled for late Monday evening.
