Shot man body’s shutting down

There were plans to finally pull the plug on his life support but doctors indicated to Ali’s family that the brain-dead man was up to press time, near the end and his internal organs were shuttind down.

“This is it. He appears to be close to death. We won’t have to pull the plug no more as he is going peacefully on his own.

We had so many plans for him if he pulled through but Almighty God had other plans. Hassan is in a better place,” said a female relative who was contacted by Newsday after it was reported during the CNC3 7o’clock news last night, that he had just died.

“He remains on life support but is brain dead. He is slipping away slowly and we are all by his side,” the female relative said.

Ali was one of five men injured during a robbery attempt at a barber shop at La Puerta Avenue, Diego Martin last Friday.

He was warded since the shooting at Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Ali was shot in the head and hand.

Hassan was going to get a haircut at Spec’s Cuts on La Puerta Avenue, just after midday last Friday, when he was caught in the cross-fire between bandits and an off-duty police officer during an attempted robbery.

According to reports, at about 12.15 pm, two men entered the barbershop. One drew a firearm and announced a robbery. The men were after monies gathered from ticket sales for a J’ouvert party which was held on Sunday.

An off-duty police officer, Insp Kenneth Morgan, who was awaiting a hair cut, drew his licensed firearm and engaged the bandits. A shootout ensued and one of the bandits was shot dead.

Insp Morgan and Ali were also shot. Morgan remains warded at a private health institute. The second bandit remains at large.
