Members call for Murray’s removal
Fifty-one members of QPCC signed a requisition dated October 10 2016 stating their dissatisfaction with Murray. The QPCC has approximately 3,000 members. The document that was made available to Newsday yesterday stated, “In accordance with rule 26 (2) of the Club’s Bye-Laws and upon presentation of the requisition stated below signed by fifty one (51) members of the Club, notice is hereby given that a Special General Meeting of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club will be held at the Century Ballroom on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 6 pm for consideration and decision of the following:
Be it resolved that president Mr Deryck Murray be removed from the elected position of president of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club having regard to his inability and/ or failure to provide the standard of leadership required by our Club, as evidenced by the several examples outlined below, resulting in a loss of confidence in him to efficiently and effectively perform the duties of president.”
One of the examples that the requisition stated was, “August 15, 2016 (Murray) tried to personally schedule the August monthly meeting of the Management Committee, originally scheduled for August 16, 2016 with the knowledge that several members inclusive of the Tresurer and Honorary Secretary would not be available and additionally tabled for discussion items which should have been addressed directly with the CEO prior to it being tabled at a Management Committee meeting.”
Murray said he is aware that some members of QPCC are unhappy with his performance. He stated in a telephone interview last evening, “I am aware of that and I will now have to prepare a response, so it’s a question of ensuring that I (take) concern for my own personal reputation but I also have to work in the best interest of the club.”
Murray, who is a former president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and West Indies wicketkeeper, said he has been doing his best and is hoping to get over this hurdle. Murray stated, “I have been president for almost five years and I think I have been doing a good job so I hope I can weather this storm.” Murray’s term as president will end at the end of 2017.
Asked what is the process of changing a president during his term Murray stated, “I am investigating all those matters and processes to make sure that we follow proper processes.”
