Four Derby winners in Caribbean Champion Stakes

At the first nomination stage for the race to be run on November 26 over 1800 metres, this year’s Derby winner Academy Award will match strides with 2012 winner Free Passage, Momentum winner in 2014 and Bigman In Town the 2013 king who will be making a return to racing after a long layoff through injury.

Also nominated are Derby disappointment Crown The King the improving Man Tol Come.

And with Headline News, also on the comeback trail nominated, turfites can expect a grand renewal of the battle between this game chestnut colt and the “Bigman”.

There were 14 nominations for the race with a second nomination fee of $300 due and payable on or before Wednesday.

Meanwhile, connections have paid a total of $1,200 in penalty fees for fouir fillies to race io the Oaks Stakes on November 12 over 1800 metres.

Those for which penalties were paid are Newthinginthong, Embrace The Storm, Pixie and Princess Grace.

There were 17 fillies at the second stage, and a third nomination fee of $300 is payable on October 26.

The Caribbean Sprint Championshiip over 1200 metres to hbe run off on November 5, drew 15 nominees, headlined by Academy Award, Headline News, Desert Dancer and Blue Tequila.
