Police note 17% reduction in road fatalities
“For the corresponding period in 2015, there were 101 fatal Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) resulting in 115 deaths. I am pleased to announce that to date we have 84 road fatalities resulting in 96 deaths, which represent a 17 percent decrease,” ASP Rampath said.
He added that since the introduction of the Speed Legislation and enforcement officers they have issued 6,740 speed tickets for the period for driving under the influence detection and made 1,005 DUI arrests.
Rampath said for the period 2015 there was 1,325 arrests for DUI, and noted that due to the TTPS heightened visibility, and enforcement there has been a change in the culture of drivers.
