Govt seeks US$300,000 in donations
The Office of Disaster Preparedness (ODPM) stated in a release that Government is mobilising national support for Haiti by asking members of the public to donate TT $6 over the next two weeks, in order to reach the ultimate goal of US $300,000, which will be donated to assist the people of Haiti.
The goal figure is based on an assessment and recommendations made by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), ODOM explained.
The campaign officially started on Friday and continues until October 30th, 2016 to raise money through the Haiti Relief Hurricane Fund.
Deposit boxes have been set up by the Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago to accept contributions from the national community. Citizens are asked to use the following accounting information when making donations: - Bank of Baroda, 95610200000740 - Citibank (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited, 5109882021 - First Caribbean International Bank (Trinidad and Tobago), 180002851 - First Citizens Bank Limited, 2366947 - JMMB Bank, 557769-0201 - RBC Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, 11-000-000-335- 9145 - Republic Bank Limited, 180 801 049 001 - Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited, 74815 /1209309 ODPM advised citizens that at this time monetary donations are seen as a best practice when offering disaster relief, as it reduces the logistical burdens of finding adequate storage space, transportation and personnel to distribute relief items.
Calls for assistance for relief items and supplies by the Government of Haiti will be issued to the public on all social media platforms via #wecanhelpHaiti and the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications’ Facebook or Twitter page @mpactt.
