How to evaluate a minister

We must stop the “rum-shop logic” about the performance of Government ministers. If you want to assess a minister, evaluate him on the following criteria: 1) The minister carries out the policy guidelines of Cabinet.

2) The minister conducts monthly meetings with his/her constituents.

3) The minister has formed caucus groups to gauge the pulse of the constituents.

4) The minister is within budget allocated to his ministry.

5) The minister has instituted community-based projects to bring constituents closer together.

If a minister has committed any infraction of the above it would be considered a dereliction of duty. Of course, if the minister has an illegal plant-like substance at his home or is caught engaging in sexual immorality in a hotel room he should be dismissed immediately.

The Dr Keith Rowley administration is perceived as lily-white without a stain of corruption. We must wean ourselves off the Third World mindset of firing ministers left, right and centre. Give them a chance to develop fully. Show me a perfect minister and I will show you a fool.
