MP Charles plots land usage
Addressing the final day of a ten-day drama of Ramleela on Sunday night, Charles said there is a 30-acre plot of State-owned land in and around the ground and he is now looking at the possibility of developing it.
“It is time we develop this land into a place for future generations to experience the great work of their ancestors,” Charles said, adding that the Cedar Hill ground is unique in the sense that no other ground has the shape of a natural amphitheatre such as this one.
He congratulated Alvin Saltan for coordinating the 2016 Ramleela festival in that area. He also commended scores of young people who participated in the religious drama.
Charles outlined the work done by the Princes Town Regional Corporation in upgrading the Ramleela ground in the last two years. The seating accommodation was increased by the addition of concrete seats. Also added to this ground is a temple for Lord Ganesh and also a plaque carrying the names of the persons who contributed to the development of Ramleela at that venue.
Councillor for the area Shawn Premchand also brought greetings saying there is a lot more to be done to improve the facility in Cedar Hill and he is working around the clock to make sure the people get what is due to them.
The members of the Cedar Hill Cultural Organisation (CHCO) partnered with the Princes Town Regional Cooperation to mark the 130th anniversary of Ramleela. The drama started on October 9 and ended on Sunday with the burning of the 30-foot effigy of Ravan.
Also present were members of the National Heritage Trust as well as members of the TT Cadets.
The Ramleela ended with a fireworks display at 10.30 pm.
