Club Sando, Rangers repel servicemen at Couva

Club Sando picked up their first points of the 2016-2017 season when they overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Defence Force 3-2 while Rangers registered a 2-0 victory over the lawmen.

After Friday night’s results, Rangers moved up to second place with seven points from four games, two behind leaders Central FC, followed by San Juan Jabloteh and Ma Pau Stars, who each have six points.

Defence Force, on the other hand, are ninth on the 10-team table with three points from four games, with Point Fortin Civic at the bottom with three points.

Things seemed to be going Defence Force’s way in the first half when they netted twice, courtesy midfielders Hashim Arcia (25th minute) and Sean Narcis (45th).

But Club Sando rebounded emphatically in the second half, with goals from Jamaican utility player Keithy Simpson (53rd), Akeem Roach (78th) and Akeem Humphrey (85th).

St Ann’s Rangers have been the whipping boys on a regular basis at the Pro League level.

But, with the return of Anthony Streete as coach (with ex-coaches Dean Pacheco and Jason Spence as his deputy and manager respectively) and the addition of veteran goalkeeper Cleon John, Rangers have the look of a team who can spring a few surprises this season.

And they most certainly did on Friday.

Police were missing strikers Keion Wilson and Kareem Freitas, who were injured in the 2-2 draw against Point Fortin on Tuesday, and the margin of defeat on Friday could have been wider if Rangers had shown more patience and tactical awareness in attack.

However, midfielder Dylon King broke the deadlock in the 31st, sending a freekick through the ball and to the right of goalkeeper Adrian Foncette after he was initially blocked by Police defender Anton Hutchinson
