Corporation must fix its wrongs first

The bush should have been bagged. However, the corporation’s clerk did not appear to use her discretion. Are they properly trained? Is this the high-handed attitude as usual? Were there notifications to residents in mailboxes, town meetings, or in the press advising of immediate charges? Residents often put their cuttings out for the “bush truck” and there are no “charges”.

Please advise accordingly as a resident at Roxy Roundabout is a habitual offender, with overgrown bush for months.

Also, when the grass in Nelson Mandela Park is cut, workers leave broken branches and bush on the sidewalk around the park.

As for charging for littering, that’s laughable as the corporation encourages major littering when there are events, especially at Carnival time.

There is major littering and urinating, encouraged and condoned by the corporation. The urinating in public is an offence, but no one is charged.

The filthy, horrid state in which our streets are left after events speaks volumes about us as an island.

I am calling on the corporation to correct its wrongs before trying to correct residents.

It also needs to take note of businesses using the sidewalks for advertising. That is blocking the public footpath. That is an offence.

The City Corporation must deal with these issues in the proper manner. There are laws which guide this country but we have become laissez-faire and totally disrespectful of each other.

And get Community Patrols to be active and contribute in a meaningful way.
