PNM ended UNC ‘nightmare’
In his maiden contribution in the Senate in the 2016/2017 Budget debate on Friday, Sinanan said TT witnessed “obscene wastage” of public monies and breaches of the public trust by the PP.
He said while the PNM has put an end to that by winning last September’s general elections, “the nightmare continues” for the Opposition UNC.
Predicting the PNM will win the November 28 Local Government Elections and the 2020 General Elections, Sinanan said Government is taking steps to implement projects to benefit the population and stimulate economic growth in TT.
Sinanan, who is also a PNM deputy leader, referred to allocations of $239 million and $45 million to deal with flooding and drainage respectively.
He vowed that under PNM, “none of this money will be stolen.” Describing the Budget as a blueprint for the country’s economic transformation, Sinanan claimed the only thing which the PP in office was to take “good care of themselves and their friends.” In her contribution, Budhu said the PNM eliminated wastage in the food card programme.
She said under the PP, there were persons in that programme who were using the food cards of deceased persons to benefit themselves, instead of the cards being given to those most in need.
Budhu said the PNM was well aware that the current economic circumstances meant it was “not business as usual.” She added that knowing the country has a “mauby pocket” at this time, the PNM did not act irresponsibly and “go and buy champagne.” Budhu also praised Sports Minister Daryl Smith for ensuring that sports projects abandoned by the PP were completed. She said Government saw sport as one of the avenues through which TT’s economy can be diversified
