Marcelle defeats top seed Castanada in Solo Badminton

Marcelle came back from one set down to register a 17-21, 21- 13, 21-8 victory. Number two seed and defending champion Solangel Guzman outlasted her younger rival Jada Renales, 21-5 21-5 in the other semifinal.

In the men’s singles semi-finals, Cory Fanus got past Alistair Espinoza 21-9, 19-21, 21-12, while Will Lee defeated Naim Mohammed 20-22, 21-17, 21-14.

In mixed doubles semi-final action the number one seeded pair of Espinoza and Renales were in dominant form as they defeated Renaldo Sinanan and Latoya Walrond in straight sets 21-14 21-9. In the other semi-final Mohammed and Marcelle came up tops in a see-saw battle against Jewhel Smith and Castanada, 21- 6, 18-21, 21-13.

In the women’s doubles semi-finals the number one pair of Reba Fleary and Arielle Gomez were upset by unseeded Anita Mahadeo and Marcelle 21-12, 17-21, 21-19. Guzman and Renales easily beat Castanada and Walrond 21-11, 21-7 in the other semi-final.

In men’s doubles play, Bajans Fanus and Dakeil Thorpe advanced to the final along with TT duo Naim Mohammed and Rahul Rampersad.

The masters Over-40 competition is being played in a round-robin format with the Ronald Clarke/Derwin Renales team and the Wilson Reyes/Allan Young pair currently leading the standings.
