Top cop hails new St Joseph station

“There is no better way to trigger the motivational process of police officers than by enhancing the environment in which they work,” Williams said in his remarks at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

“The very presence of this room allows the police service an opportunity to further our engagement with the community.

It also provides that clear linkage to our operating plans to the enhancement of our communication with communities through (the) station council.” Williams said the station council is geared towards bringing key stakeholders together with the police so they can look at ways and means of improving the community.

“I can envisage that this police station will enhance the performance of the police service in the community,” Williams said.

According to speakers at the ceremony, the station, located on corner of Abercromby Street and the Eastern Main Road, has the best in modern equipment, making it a major asset in the fight against crime.

Some of these features include a first aid room, identification parade rooms with two-way mirrors, dormitories and changing facilities for both male and female police officers, holding cells for offenders, and containment rooms for offenders under the age of 18.

Of all the features, the one that was most appreciated was the community meeting room, located near the reception area of the station.

Sunday Newsday understands police officers will be moving from the old station on the corner of Abercromby and Market Streets to the new one within the next coming weeks.
