Thugs in Uniform

Speaking the truth in a world run by liars can cost you your life, but in this case, it may cost David West his job. The TT PS is corrupt to its core and had it not been for the feckless leadership of former Prime Minister, George Chambers when he received the Scott Drug Report in 1986, we may have been able to deal with this situation in its embryonic stages. Nevertheless, here we are 30 years later with a police service that evolved from having a ‘few pockets’ of rogue corrupt officers (according to the report), to what now seems to be the majority.

I could be wrong; in fact, I hope I’m wrong, but it is all about perception and there are very few Trinbagonians home or abroad, dead or alive who believe otherwise.

The TT PS is undeniably the biggest, legally armed gang who have only been successful in “spearheading” a reign of terror on the population. So, really, who are these members of the police service really trying to fool? I never refer to these quacks as police officers because I refuse to insult the other men and women who carry that title around the world - and even within the TT PS itself - with the utmost pride and dedication.

Ironically, the firing of West is being “spearheaded” by the president of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association, Michael Seales – a man who was charged with an offence just below treason on any list of offences against the State. Seales, being a ‘leader’ within the organisation, did not choose instead to spearhead an investigation into the veracity of West’s statement in order to eliminate those corrupt officers; he decided to spend (waste) his time looking to deflect from the incompetence of, and distract from the corruption amongst his boys.

We really need to sit back and evaluate from whom this indictment came; this was not a career criminal and his family bashing “Babylon” for police brutality.

This is the man who receives and reviews all complaints against members of the TT PS, and his views on this issue carry a lot of weight. There is no one else outside of the police service better positioned to boldly make that allegation without being taken seriously.

The citizenry has been subjected to TT PS’s public whining over West’s comment, yet they use the shameless propaganda platform on a local television station to defend to the last the gun-toting uniformed thugs who run around robbing businesses; taxing business people for protection; renting their uniforms, firearms, and God knows what else; verbally and physically abusing civilians; and using tax-bought police vehicles on tax-paid government time to go make school runs, shopping and to visit ‘friends’ during the day when the other half is at work.

The TT PS is a cesspool of misconduct and corruption, but our politicians ignore that fact because they only see a large block of votes. Every politician sitting in our Parliament is responsible for every unsolved murder, rape and robbery because had they focused on improving the laws and policies governing the TT PS, we would have more police officers who care about the society in which they and their families live.

I really hate to say this, but the TT PS runs this country; the government is only there to employ and citizens are here to pay salaries.

Only when a proper government gets into that parliament will we actually get to wipe the slate of the TT PS clean and for once have a police service with a full complement of police officers dedicated to the profession, and not u n i f o rm w e a r i n g thugs who defaulted into “de wuk” when they asked themselves: CEPEP or TT PS? j a - mille85@ msn.com
