No UNC caucus
This was in contrast to an erroneous report in another media outlet that had purported to cite UNC chairman, David Lee, as announcing such a meeting to discuss the state of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC). At the SGRC a tie in the recent Local Government Elections saw the People’s National Movement try to invoke its incumbency as a tie-breaker, a move that the UNC stoutly rejected as “thuggery” and hinted at possible legal action to refute. Yesterday both Opposition Senator Khadijah Ameen and Tabaquite MP Dr Suruj Rambachan each separately confirmed to Newsday that no UNC caucus was due.
“I don’t know where that information came from,” said Ameen.
“We had never planned to caucus.” Rambachan said that by today the party would have a clearer idea of any caucus.
