Calypso shining
Twenty women vied for the title.
While it was a topic, with pictures of varying Newsday headlines floating on multimedia screens, there were not many songs which highlighted the gravity of the situation of women and children in contemporary TT. At the end of it all, the coveted calypso title of National Calypso Queen went to Sasha Ann Moses.
She won with her song, The Main Witness, calling for greater legislation to protect witnesses in TT.
This is the second win of Carnival 2017 for Moses who also won the Stars of Tomorrow competition.
Second place went to Tobagonian Wendy Garrick with her composition Fly Trinbago and third place went to Kerine Williams- Figaro (Tiny) with her piece, End of Days.
Here are some images of the finalists during their performances.
