Woman on fraud charge
The woman was arrested by Fraud Squad police and taken before the magistrate where a charge was read to her that on March 2, she tendered the sick leave to her employer from a medical doctor, knowing it to be false.
The charge arose from investigations at the Chaguaramas Development Authority in which the document was altered to reflect a different number of days which was authorised by the medical doctor.
“The allegation, as read out in the charge, contended that the “One Day” written on the sick leave was altered to state, “Two Days”.
The charge was laid under the Forgery Act and the woman was not called upon to plead. Spearheading investigations was Supt Andy Belfon while WPC Lewis, Cpl Popan and Legal Officer to the Fraud Squad Cpl Bassarath, were all involved.
The accused woman was placed on $20,000 bail and ordered to return to court on May 19.
