Captains upbeat ahead of PowerGen T20 finals
In the girls final St Stephen’s College and Swaha Hindu College will play at 3 pm, followed by the boys final between Hillview College and Naparima College at 6.30 pm.
Yesterday at the launch of the finals at the Courtyard by Marriott Port of Spain, Hillview captain Dexter Sween said his team plans to get revenge on Naparima, the team that defeated Hillview in the quarterfinals last year.
Sween said, “This year we are hungry, we are thirsty, we want to go out there and get revenge on them. Come Friday it is going to be a competitive game, they have a good bunch of young players, we also have a good bunch of young players. We just have to go out there and whoever wants it more will come out on top.” Hillview are aiming to win their second title this season after winning the Premiership 50-over competition.
Naparima captain Cephas Cooper said his team is ready for tomorrow’s match. Cooper said, “I think the boys are pumped and ready for this game on Friday.
I think we just need to stick to the basics and once we do that we will come out victorious.
We have been training hard, we just need to go out there and execute our plan.” Asked who are the key players on his team Cooper said, “I think the whole 11.” Swaha Hindu captain Ellanor Nixon stressed on the importance of teamwork. Nixon said, “It is really a privilege for us to reach this far in the competition. We are really excited to see what our competition brings for us this year.
We really look forward to Friday. Our main focus is on teamwork, once we have teamwork we believe that we can achieve it. Good luck to our opponents.” St Stephen’s College captain Janelle Noel praised her squad’s determination.
“I would like to thank each member of my team for the tremendous effort they have put out this season.
It was an absolute privilege to serve as being their captain, and the bonds and memories will forever be grateful.” Noel said they plan to take the trophy back to St Stephen’s College with them tomorrow night.
“This being our first time entering the competition, I speak for all when I say we intend to take it all the way. I will just like to congratulate Swaha Hindu College on reaching this far, but the trophy is ours.” President of the Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Surujdath Mahabir urged the supporters to turn out in their numbers. “To the public out there, we ask you to come out and support school cricket.
It is where the stars are born. Don’t wait for them to reach CPL (Caribbean Premier League) and IPL (Indian Premier League) to sit down in front your TV and watch, come live and look at them.
This is where the stars are born.”
