LOC to reveal Academy guests today

Yesterday, speaking on the Morning Brew programme on CNC3, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith confirmed that Tendulkar will not be attending the opening due to a schedule conflict.

He also confirmed that further details on the opening will be announced today. Smith said, “The Local Organising Committee (LOC) is working on finalising some really key names with Brian (Lara). They are going to be making an announcement (today) with regards to the stars that will be coming down to play, and you will be hearing a little bit about that (today).” Smith said it was a challenge for Tendulkar to come to Trinidad because of his busy schedule.

“Brian was working with his (Tendulkar) team to get him here but there have been some scheduling conflicts.” A movie called Sachin: A Billion Dreams will be released on May 26, a movie about the life of Tendulkar. Tendulkar is also currently working with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
