Murder in Maloney

His killing brings the murder toll for the year to 173. The victim has been identified as Carlos Gregoire.

At the scene of the shooting yesterday, weeping relatives looked on as police searched for evidence. One of his aunts lamented the state of crime in the country.

“What are we that we have to be doing this to each other?” she asked.

Newsday was told that just before 8 am yesterday, Gregoire was near his job talking to a group of men in a car when gunshots were fired.

The car sped off as Gregoire slumped to the ground and died.

Police from the Northern Division arrived on the scene.

Other family members described Gregoire as a charming and funny person.

He worked as a plumber for HDC and lived at Glen Lane, El Socorro.

Sources said he and another relative had been receiving threats. Newsday was also told that he had been transferred to the HDC office in Maloney because of those threats. However, when Newsday asked relatives, they said he never said anything to them about being threatened.

They said the people he spoke with before the shooting allegedly went to the HDC office in Maloney the day before.

An autopsy is expected to be done today at Forensic Science Centre. A motive has not yet been ascertained for the murder.
