National League meet on Tableland 50 overs exit

Tableland pulled out of the 50- over competition on Saturday, failing to play their match against defending champions Queen’s Park. They were also scheduled to take on Merry Boys on Sunday but did not show up. An official on the team confirmed that the team decided to pull out of the tournament because they are struggling financially and not competing at a high level in the tournament.

Tableland will now focus on the National League three-day competition which is currently taking place. Chairman of the National League Patrick Rampersad said Tableland did inform the National League of their decision to forfeit the rest of the 50-over season.

Asked if Tableland would be reprimanded for pulling out of the tournament, Rampersad said, “We have an emergency meeting this evening (yesterday), so that is part of agenda.” Rampersad said one option is to refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee, but he does not want to make the decision alone. “I will refer it to the Disciplinary Committee.

That is my personal opinion, but we will discuss it in committee this evening. I don’t want to make that decision by myself.”
