Kamla vows more protests over unfinished PP projects

Persad-Bissessar was speaking at the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha’s 172nd Indian Arrival Day celebration at the Parvati Girls Hindu College in Debe.

According to the former prime minister, among the unfinished projects are the University of the West Indies’ Debe Campus and the Parvati Girls and Shiva Boys Hindu Colleges.

She maintained that education and health must be a priority.

“If you want your children to have a place to stay and a place to live, get up now, you have to get up, you have to light a fire in your belly and stand up and say enough is enough.

“When we ask you to come and stand with us, please come. Don’t sit down home and say the opposition people, a waste of time, they not doing nothing. Just as we go to protest for the hospital (Couva Children’s Hospital), we could come right here in Debe to call for the opening of the new university campus.

“Too many of us like to sit down home and quarrel,” she said.

Persad-Bissessar also maintained that children must not suffer because of “spite malice and wickedness.” She also trained her guns on what she regarded as excessive spending by the PNM government ministers, saying if it were her, she would have fired any errant minister.

“Not even a word to say that he [Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley] will speak to them that he will bring them in and read the riot act to them. If it were me they would have been fired the next day, fired, fired. I am so appalled and what he do, he jump on an airplane and gone,” she said.

The prime minister and his government also came in for heavy tongue lashings from Maha Sabha secretary general Sat Maharaj and Opposition MPs Dr Roodal Moonilal and Barry Padarath.

Maharaj in his address called on Education Minister Anthony Garcia to hand over the Roodal Moonilal Ramai Trace and Reform Village Hindu Schools to him and he will have those schools completed in record time.

“Give us Reform Hindu School just as it is and we will complete it. Give us Ramai Trace Hindu School just as it is and we will complete it.
