Ruptured water main, school closed for weeks

The parents complained that while arrangements are being made to conduct repairs, their children are losing valuable time to prepare for exams.

“We have very willing teachers to come out and teach,” said one parent.

“Our children are willing to learn. It is just taking so long to fix this one problem. You mean to tell me that three weeks have passed and not a single person has come to even view the damage? This is going on for too long now.” Parents protested for a second day in a row yesterday in front the school.

“As parents we try to do as much as we can,” said another parent.

“If something like a bulb needs to be replaced or something needs fixing then we would do it. But something so technical like this, there is nothing we could do. The ministry has to be here.” Newsday was told that the principal has been liaising with the Education Facilities Company Limited (EFCL) to find out when the main can be repaired, but bureaucratic red tape has slowed, to a veritable halt, the progress of sourcing contractors.

A source from the Ministry of Education said yesterday that the EFCL will have a contractor on the school compound before the end of the week to complete the necessary repairs.
