St Francois get Fire scare

LEADERS St Francois Nationals got a big scare from Fire Services before ensuring full points with a 3-2 victory as Northern Football Association action continued. Ex-national midfielder/defender Don Morris knocked in a double and Nikosi James got the other goal in Monday’s game at the Queen’s Park Savannah, for the Premier Division leaders to stay ahead of the chasing pack. Dion Lawrence and Hayden Dumas threatened to douse the St Francois lads. Defending champions Superstar Rangers kept up their challenge with an emphatic 3-0 shut out of La Famille on a double by Damian Villafana and another goal from Alvin Joseph.

Also on Monday, Queen’s Park swamped Cocorite United 9-1 with Matthew Camacho, Ladislaw Alcindore, Scott Rodriguez and Ryan Cumberbatch each scoring twice and David Fletcher the other.  Kerwin Roach had the only goal for the beaten team. And Xcel Oriental and Defence Force played to a 0-0 draw in another Monday game. Maple downed Maraval Youth Academy 4-2 on a hat-trick by Antonio Gooding and another from Kevon Crick, while Wayne Mendez and Stafond Quashie scored for the losers. In the battle of the “Old Firm,” Paragon shut out Malvern 2-0 with Garth Warner scoring both goals, while Harvard and Riverpool shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Anhell Laurie got the Harvard goal, while Barry Carasquero netted for Riverpool.
