Bassarath heads South East cricket again

Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) executive member Azim Bassarath was elected chairman of the South East Zone for a fourth successive time. Bassarath who is also a Road Officer II attached to the Ministry of Local Government said after his victory on Friday last, he was certain cricket would continue its upward trend in his zone. Touted as the best run zone in Trinidad and Tobago by TTCB president and chief executive officer Alloy Lequay, the South East Zonal Council has been as solid as a rock under the guidance of Bassarath. His deputy for the next  term will be Lutchmienarine Ramdhan who replaces Henry Seepersad.

Fazida Mohammed was returned as secretary and her husband Nazam Ali is still treasurer. Bassarath said preparations are already on the way for the staging of the 2004 season. “We have already started working towards the new season and a lot of positive steps are to be made in the South East region next year. “For instance we have been able to bring out the fans to the games again and there is an upswing in the number of spectators looking at them down here. “We have been able to attract a lot more teams and we will be looking to form a Division III for the 2004 season. “In addition to this we intend to continue with our very aggressive youth development programme,” Bassarath ended. TTCB representatives are Azim Bassarath, Fazida Mohammed and Nazam Ali.
