Cox best in Toronto half marathon
TRINIDAD and Tobago long distance runner Curtis Cox was the best Caribbean finisher in this year’s Scotiabank Half Marathon in Toronto, Canada. on Sunday. Cox was fifth to the finish line in a time of 1:10.08 ahead of St Lucian Victor Ledger who was a close sixth in 1:10.34, while another Trinidadian Errol “Baldhead” Williams finished 12th overall in 1:13.04. Bajan Keith Cumberbatch who was 24th overall in 1:17.29 was the Master’s champ on the day.
But perennial Caribbean king Pamenos Ballantyne of St Vincent was fourth of 1000 runners in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on Yonge Street, downtown Toronto timed in 2:28. Trinidad and Tobago’s Cantius Thomas could finish only 13th in a time of 2:41. Williams who returned home on Monday was delighted at the treatment meted out to the six-man Caribbean contingent from Trinidad and Tobago, St.Vincent, St. Lucia and Barbados. The Caribbean men were named “Best Team” overall, and received a trophy from their hosts Sheraton Hotel, Lakeshore Boulevard, West Toronto. And the team plans to return on invitation, for the Niagara Falls Half Marathon on November 26. It is back to action for the long-distance men on November 2 in the OECS Half Marathon in St. Kitts.
