Green Machine want revenge

THE “Green Machine” St Augustine will be looking to make amends for their controversial 2-1 loss to the “Dial Dynamos” Arima on September 13, when they faceoff in a top-of-the-table contest in the East Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) today.

Kick off time is 3.45 pm at the St Augustine Grounds. Arima are still atop the table with 26 points from 10 matches, two ahead of the Green Machine, with today’s result going a long way in determining the 2003 zonal champions. Third-placed Barataria can continue their fine form of late with victory at home to Toco while St George’s can halt a two-match skid with a win against Hillview at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. And the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado hosts San Juan in the zone’s other encounter. North Zone leaders QRC and runners-up St Anthony’s will continue their head-to-head tussle in the North Zone — the Royalians will travel to Fatima Grounds to meet third-placed Mucurapo while the “Westmoorings Tigers” host Morvant/ Laventille. Malick need to defeat St Mary’s at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo to keep their title hopes alive. The sliding Fatima will travel to Diamond Vale to meet the cellar-placed Diego Martin.

With Carapichaima virtually assured of a win against Chaguanas at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva, defending champs Presentation Chaguanas and Tabaquite will meet in a key encounter at the Presentation Grounds. And Signal Hill are guaranteed full points, as well as top spot in the Tobago Zone with full points against the winless Bishop’s at Shaw Park. Mid-table teams Roxborough and Elizabeth’s will battle in the zone’s other fixture at Roxborough. Naparima will be looking to widen their lead atop the South Zone with a win versus third-placed Mayaro at Presentation San Fernando Grounds, Union Hall. Naps have tallied 21 points, with St Benedict’s and Mayaro six points adrift. The La Romaine-based Benedict’s will square off against Fyzabad at Fyzabad. All matches begin at 3.45 pm with the exception of a double-header at Skinner Park, San Fernando. From 3 pm, cellar-placed Presentation meet Pleasantville while, at 5 pm, defending champs Princes Town face Vessigny.
