Costa Ricans come for f/ball friendly

Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic football  team will go into camp today at the Emerald Apartments ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against Costa Rica at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, from 7.30 pm.

The Costa Ricans are preparing for their second round encounter against either Guyana or Barbados while TT are awaiting the winners of the Grenada/Cayman Islands tie. The Costa Ricans are scheduled to arrive in Trinidad at 4.30 am today and will train tomorrow evening at the match venue from 7 pm. TT coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier will conduct his team’s session from 5 pm at the same venue. The “Ticos” Olympic team,  which includes a member of their senior team, Erick Scott, got past Belize with ease in the first round. They scored 23 goals over the two including a  15-0  win at the Estadio Rosabal Cordero de Heredia.

That result equalled the  largest score ever achieved by a Costa Rican national team. “We are quite aware that the Costa Ricans are tough opponents, having also played them in a recent friendly. But I think our team will be well up to the test because we know we have to be able to match these sort of oppositions if we are to look ahead to doing well in the remainder of the qualifying tournament. The tougher the opponent, the more we will anticipate the game,” Fevrier said yesterday.

TT Olympic team: Jan Michael Williams, Keron Phillips Silvio Spann, Kendall Davis (Vibe CT 105 W Connection); Daurance Williams, Nigel Daniel, Kerry Baptiste, Michael Celestine, Josh Johnson (CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh); Devon Caseman, Andre Toussaint, Julius James (Joe Public); Ronald Primus (Caledonia AIA); Lyndon Diaz (SWIF); Errol Charles (Starworld Strikers); Shelton Williams, Kevin Carter (Defence Force).
