A mother of three was killed instantly when the driver of a car proceeding east along the Priority Bus Route in the vicinity of Carib, Brewery collided with her causing instant death.
Jeanette Mc Queen, a bottle washer employed with Carib became the 156th road fatality for the year. Reports revealed that around 5 am yesterday, Mc Queen was attempting to cross the bus route from north to south. She was then struck by a car driven by a supervisor at the Piarco Airport. Fellow employees of the dead woman gathered at the scene of the accident and looked on in shock. Some female co-workers were seen crying while others comforted each other. Mc Queen was described as a hard worker who travelled from her home at McBean Village, Couva to Carib each day. They said that she was a friendly person who was well liked.
The two children of the 34-year-old woman were quickly on the scene and they were allowed to view the body of their mother. Crystal Simmonds and David Mc Queen described their mother as one of the best persons in the world. They added that she was kind, always willing to lend a helping hand and an honest person. Employees of Carib told Newsday that they have been clamouring for a walkover to be built so that the dangers of crossing the bus route would be minimised but nothing has been done. Police investigators told Newsday that the driver of the car was interviewed and allowed to leave pending an investigation.
