Cops recover stolen walkie-talkie
A 41 year old security guard of Telecom Security who was one of the many successful applicants in Government’s recruitment for Special Reserve Police officers was arrested in a sting exercise carried out at the security booth at the Cable Company, Chaguanas. The guard who was employed with Telecom for the past three years was arrested and a walkie-talkie which was stolen on September 29 recovered. Reports revealed that on September 29, another security guard secured the walkie-talkie in the guard booth and left to attend to a disturbance. On his return the walkie-talkie was missing.
A report was made to the Chaguanas CID and Ag Sgt Ajith Persad, the head of the Central Division Robbery Squad, carried out enquiries. Yesterday, officers who had the guard under surveillance went to the guard booth where he was working and carried out a search. The stolen walkie-talkie was seized and the guard was promptly arrested. The walkie-talkie is valued at $5,000. Officials of Telecom were alerted and the guard is expected to be charged with larceny. The party of officers involved in the sting operation also carried out several raids in the Central Division. The exercise, which started at midnight and ended at midday, resulted in the arrest of 12 persons on outstanding warrants and outstanding robberies in the division. Several drug dens were also raided as part of the exercise. The exercise was led by Ag Sgt Persad and included PCs Ramsook, Basraj, Pariagh, Persad, Samad, Ramdin and Narcis.
