Cops probe baby’s death

A SEVEN-month-old baby boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Couva District Hospital mere hours after he had been treated and discharged from the same medical institution hours before. The baby’s mother, Natasha Logan, 28, of Mary Street, Couva, told police that around 8 am on Wednesday, she took her son Nairoon, to the Couva Hospital because he was suffering from constipation and was experiencing a lot of pain. She said the child was attended to by a doctor at the Casualty Department who treated him and sent him home. Logan told police around midday yesterday, she fed the baby and put him to sleep. When she checked on the baby around 2.30 pm, she found him lying motionless on the bed. Logan rushed her child to the Couva District Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy was expected to be carried out yesterday at the Port-of-Spain Mortuary. Cpl Noel Corbett of the Couva CID is investigating.
