Turf heroes in grudge match

Bandinthong and Sea Spider are set for another clash on Saturday on the Arima Race Club Day 32 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

The duo, who both have an outstanding record on the turf course, will match strides over 1100 metres in the Starter Allowance feature on the nine-race programme. Bandinthong will be going after a hat-trick of victories in the sprint and Sea Spider will be coming off fresh from a three-month lay off. But the tandem will not have things their own way in the grudge over their favoured ground and pet distance. Trainer Maniram “Boboy” Ma-haraj has also set his sights on the event valued at $23,000 with The Guv’nor and Man Of Class. His two runners will share topweight of 56.5 kilos in the dash. Cyril “Patch” Arneaud has also pencilled Rhythm Divine in the contest.  But the runner which he has taken up the ladder from the $7,500 ranks was entered to race on the main track only and will only compete against the elite group if the race is shifted to the main course. Three-year-olds Francesca, Outrageous Victory, Sure Wager and Fortunate Flag will represent the youngest generation in the dash. Napoleon is set to make a first appearance this season in an Optional Claiming $20,000 on Saturday’s programme. The easy assignment over 1200 metres was chosen for the roan grey which finished runner up to Cash Wager in his last appearance in the 2002 Stewards Cup.
