Carter nets double in D/Force victory

NATIONAL Under-23 striker Kevon Carter continued his rich vein of form, scoring twice as Defence Force whipped North East Stars 3-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. The 20-year-old Carter, opened the scoring for the Army-Coast Guard combination in the 36th minute of Wednesday night’s TT Pro League round 22 action, chesting down a right-side centre from Ronald Boyce before slipping the ball past an advancing Stars goalkeeper Trevor Nottingham. Defence Force custodian Cleon John was called into action in the 41st, stopping a point-blank shot from Randolph Jerome, from a feed by on-loan midfielder Kevin Jeffrey.

The 28-year-old Jeffrey, back home after his third season with American A-League team Richmond Kickers, was impressive in his first outing for the Sangre Grande-based outfit but, Defence Force withstood their series of attacks and put the game beyond reach in the 77th minute. A long ball from left-back Kwesi Smith was collected by Boyce whose square-pass was met by Carter, and despite the challenge of Stars captain Charles Pollard, he rifled his shot past Nottingham. Midfielder Kevin Williams slammed his 82nd minute drive against the bar but, skipper Kurt Williams rounded off  the scoring in stoppage time, shooting home from long range after a lay-off  by Shelton Williams. Jamaican-born Nicholas Ad-dlery netted his second goal in as many matches, in the 69th minute, as South Starworld Strikers edged South West Institute of Football (SWIF) 1-0 at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds.
