Chin Lee — Special Unit will have anti-terrorist elements
National Security Minister, Howard Chin Lee referred to the special crime-fighting unit which will be soon established to deal with the kidnapping scourge. Told that a lot of people, especially businessmen were leaving the country because of kidnappings, Chin Lee said the new unit which was an-nounced in the 2003-2004 Budget to help fight crime, will deal with the problem. As a matter of fact, he said the new unit will be developed into something similar to what he des-cribed as an “anti-terrorist organisation.” Chin Lee spoke with Sunday Newsday last week.
He referred to the promotion of Colonel Peter Joseph to Brigadier, who will head the special unit to help combat crime, especially kidnappings. “Well as you know, we’ve just formed a special unit to deal specifically with kidnappings headed by Colonel Joseph, who has now risen to the rank of Brigadier and who will be given all the tools necessary to deal with the problem of kidnapping,” he said. Chin Lee noted that if Brigadier Joseph concentrates all of his efforts in that area, which will be developed similarly to an anti-terrorist organisation, TT will begin to see improvements.
