Siu Butt doubles up for Magnolia

ACE Trinidad and Tobago player Stacey Siu Butt scored twice as Magnolia breezed past Paradise 7-1 in a Women’s Division encounter of the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board Indoor Championships at the Woodbrook Youth Facility. Siu Butt scored from a penalty corner in the 17th minute of Saturday’s fixture, and got her second goal seven minutes later, to put Magnolia 4-0 ahead, after goals from Gilla Marquez in the second minute and Kristi-Ann Chin in the ninth. Nicollette Alleyne latched on to a penalty corner to score Paradise’s consolation in the 31st but there was no further joy as Marquez completed her hat-trick, in the 32nd and 35th, while Nicole Lee ended the rout on the stroke of full-time. Nicholas Wren and Neil Lashley scored two goals apiece as Defence Force hammered Paradise 7-0 in a Men’s Division matchup.

Wren netted the second for the Army-Coast Guard combination, in the fifth minute, after Donny Gobinsingh opened the scoring after three minutes of play. But the best was yet to come, as Lashley got Defence Force’s third in the 26th, with Keshen Johnson widening the lead in the 31st. Wren scored the fifth goal in the 33rd, Lashley in the 35th and Roger Daniel, better known for his shooting prowess for Trinidad and Tobago, seconds later to seal victory for the Teteron lads.
