Hawks fly with Petrotrin t-tennis
Hawks “A” crushed Solo Crusaders 3-0 on the final day of the Petrotrin National Table Tennis League to hold on to the Division One title at the Jean Pierre Complex, mucurapo on Sunday.
Garfield Gay was the most dominant Hawks player taking a 14-12, 11-8, 11-6 win over Terry Corbin. Top national player Reeza Burke got into a tangle with Anthony Brown eventually securing a 2-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6 win and Dave Williams’ 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-6 battle with Kenneth Parmanand was the final nail in the Crusaders’ coffin. Hawks joins Calder Hall “A,” who won the Division Two title on the first day, beating D’Abadie Youths “C” 3-1 in the finals; and D’Abadie Youths Women in the winners’ circle. The D’Abadie women played unbeaten in the final stages to end on eight points, standing in the way of Solo Crusaders who beat defending national women champs Gladiators “A” 3-1 on the first day and came into the final unbeaten 3-0. In the final D’Abadie beat Crusaders 3-0: Marilyn Lewis beat Nicole Mootilal, Shellyann Wilson defeated Shelly-Anne Parris and the doubles team of Wilson/Lewis beat Parris/Mootilal. Gladiators “A” were third with six points; Conquerors placed fourth with five points; and Gladiators “B” held the table up ending sixth with four points.
