Man in court on wife-killing charge

An EL SOCORRO man charged with the murder of his wife yesterday appeared before Magistrate Andrew Stroude at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Fifth Court. Terry Yearwood, 35, appeared before the Magistrate charged with the October 10 murder of his 30-year-old wife, Donna Marie Alexis-Yearwood.

The throat of  Alexis-Yearwood was slit at her mother’s home at the corner of 10th Street and Jogie Road, Barataria.  She died on her way to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Yearwood, who was not represented by an attorney, told Stroude that his brother, Vishnu Yearwood had accepted the responsibility of retaining legal counsel for him. He said he (Terry) had been taken from the hospital, where he had been warded since the incident, to the Barataria Police Station and was charged by Sgt David Abraham. He was subsequently brought to the St Vincent Street courthouse, he said. Yearwood was remanded into custody and the matter was adjourned until today and transferred to the Eighth Court.
