Jabloteh continue triumphant Pro League run
CHAMPIONS CL Financial Jabloteh led the way as the top three teams in the T&T Pro League were all victorious in Round 24 action. The defending champs eased past South West Institute of Football (SWIF) 2-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo while second-placed W Connection hammered “The Stallions” of Caledonia AIA 5-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, and North East Stars remained third after a 3-1 triumph over South Starworld Strikers at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima on Wednesday night. National strikers Cornell Glen and Devon Mitchell were the marksmen for Jabloteh, with Glen opening the scoring in the 27th minute and Mitchell adding the second in the 30th.
The Stallions provided little opposition to the Savonetta lads, with temperamental midfielder Kerwyn “Hardest” Jemmott and St Lucian striker Titus Elva each finding the back of the net twice — Jemmott netting in the eighth and 70th minutes, Elva scoring in the 73rd and 87th and left-back Jose Luis Seabra adding the other in the 17th. Former national defender Shurland David got AIA’s consolation in the 89th. Jabloteh lead the standings with 63 points, eight ahead of Connection with North East Stars third on 42. The Sangre-Grande based Stars earned their 13th win of the season courtesy a double from Guyanese Randolph Jerome, in the 16th and 52nd minutes, and another from strike partner Jerren Nixon in the 85th.
Jamaican-born Starworld forward Nicholas Addlery pulled back one for his team in the 85th. Defence Force were due to face the struggling Arima Fire at Malabar last night with a chance to overtake Starworld in fourth spot. And the inconsistent Joe Public will square off against cellar-placed Tobago United at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna from 4 pm today.
