Connection cruise past SWIF 4-0
W CONNECTION reduced the deficit with CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in the T&T Pro League to five points after a 4-0 hammering of South West Institute of Football (SWIF) at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds yesterday.
But Jabloteh can re-establish their eight-point lead with victory against Defence Force at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 7 pm today. Not content with a 1-0 advantage courtesy a 13th minute goal from national Under-23 striker Kendall Davis, the Savonetta lads slammed three more in the final five minutes through Ronaldo Viana in the 85th, Titus Elva in the 89th and Kerwyn “Hardest” Jemmott on the stroke of fulltime. South Starworld Strikers overtook the Army-Coast Guard combination in fourth spot after a 5-2 mauling of cellar-placed Tobago United at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva while striker Jerren Nixon continued his fantastic form, scoring in the 64th minute to give North East Stars a 1-0 triumph over Arima Fire at the Sangre Grande Recreation Grounds. And, with little hope of dethroning Jabloteh as league champs, the “Eastern Lions” Joe Public and the “Stallions” Caledonia AIA battled to a dull 0-0 draw at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.
Caledonia’s newest recruit, Botswana goalkeeper made three excellent saves in an otherwise dull first half, from a Devin Elcock drive in the 23rd and back-to-back Ochieng Abosi shots in the 29th and 42nd. The Stallions failed to capitalise on their few opportunities on goal, with Ryan Stewart blasting his 45th minute volley, from a left-side centre from Hyron Brown-Baptiste overbar while striker Gary John had his 52nd minute attempt blocked by goalkeeper Kevin Graham, with captain Derek King clearing his rebound off the line. In the 58th, substitute Kevaughn Connell, after breaking AIA’s offside trap, sent his header wide of the mark from a Seon Power’s long ball. But the Stallions’ Nigel Hart, who had a torrid time up front, could not give his team the winner in the 66th. Sent clear on goal by Abdullah Phillips, he eluded the ever-improving Power and, with Graham at his mercy, chipped the ball overbar.
