Registration which began at 8.30 am, will continue over the coming Saturdays, followed by the coaching sessions which start from 9.30 am.
The school runs from October to December and will accept 60 boys and girls from ages 7 – 15 from all over the country at a cost of $125 each. Coaches Winston Sobers and Debideen Malick are among the complement of six coaches assigned to the school. The cricket school has been in existence for ten years and has produced some of the country’s best young players, some of whom have now graduated to the Test arena.
The graduates of the school include Ravi Rampaul and Dinesh Ramdin who are members of the West Indies senior team. They are also on the Trinidad and Tobago team now playing in India along with fellow graduates, William Perkins, Lendl Simmons and Navin Stuart. Also among the cricketing stars produced by the school are Yannick Ottley who captained both the Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies Under-19 teams and Stephen Katwaroo who held the position of Under-15 and Under-17 captain for both the Trinidad and Tobago teams.
Accolades for the club also abound to Yannick Cariah who is a West Indies youth player.
Tony Harford, proud chairman of the club, said: “Digicel is the first ever sponsor of the cricket school and we are extremely happy for the contribution that Digicel is making to cricket regionally.”
Harford said the club was looking forward to building a strong relationship in order to support young cricketers.
Digicel’s Communications Manager, Penny Gomez said: “We aim to bring excellence to the game of cricket by adding value through our contribution to the development of the sport, in Trinidad and Tobago. “What better way to achieve that goal than by investing in our budding cricketers, hence our support of the Preysal Cricket School and the Harvard Cricket Clinic.”
