New muscle champs crowned

CHARLES ANDREWS and Shermaine St Bernard got the judges’ nod as the respective men’s and women’s overall winners at the 2003 Good ’N Natural National Senior Bodybuilding and Ms Fitness Championships.

The event was staged at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s on Sunday night in front of a crowd numbering 200. Andrews, who trains at the Olympus Gym, Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima, earlier won the middleweight division, with Malta Carib Junior National champ Damian George taking the runners-up spot and Clive Bengochea third.
And, in the final showdown, Andrews got the better of heavyweight king Adrian Cordner, light-heavyweight winner Dexter Carter and Kenton Thomas, the lone entrant in the lightweight category. St Bernard, who is based at Bio Fitness Gym at West Mall, Westmoorings, overcame the challenge of 1999 champ Monisa Harbans and Nina Jeremiah to capture the women’s title. Karen George was the lone entrant in the Miss Fitness category while 2002 men’s champ Dechon Durity and CAC bronze medallist Karen Walcott were guest posers at the event.
