Cricket official hits bad reporting
President of Merryboys Cricket Club and executive member of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Patrick Rampersad said yesterday that “irresponsible journalism” continues to portray the administration in a poor light. “A story appeared this week on one of the daily newspapers (not Newsday) which tended to give the idea that all 11 members of the executive had a vote as of right during the just concluded elections,”an irate Rampersad said yesterday. “I want to correct this gross error and inform the un-informed. Only the five officers of the Board, that is the president, the first vice-president, the second vice-president, the general secretary and the treasurer has a vote of as right. The other six do not have a vote as of right and have to come through a unit in order to have a vote at the annual general election. “For instance I came through the National League Club Represen-tatives unit and had a right to vote as a representative of the National League clubs,” Rampersad said.
The other five executive members also came through units. Rambhai Patel and Baldath Mahabir represented the National League; Ann Browne-John voted for the Women’s Cricket Board of Control (WCBC); Azim Bassarath was sent by the South East Zone; and Harry Narine is a nominated member of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB). Rampersad, who has gained the confidence of the clubs during his stint as chairman of the Superleague was very upset with the fact that uninformed journalists are being given the medium to spread distorted information. “I don’t really take on these guys because they seem to know nothing of the running of the Board. And every time they write foolishness they embarrass themselves. “I would like those who are writing the crap to let me know which organisation in this country debars out-going members from voting at their elections,” he said. Rampersad ended by saying that the work of the Board continues and development of the game is what is important at this time.
