Signal Hill get big football test today
SIGNAL HILL will meet their toughest opponents in the Tobago Zone this year — Roxborough — in the first of back-to-back Zonal semifinals scheduled for the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet from 3 pm today.
During the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), Signal Hill squeezed past Roxborough 2-1 on September 13 and 1-0 on October 2 during their successful campaign in the sister isle. With captain Keon Daniel and strikers Massimba George and Jason Lightbourne in prime form, Signal Hill will be hard to beat today. But Roxborough, who slammed seven unanswered goals past Bishop’s in last week’s quarterfinal, will be keen to eliminate the Bertille St Clair-coached lads. In the other match slated for the Bacolet venue, Scarborough will be going for their third straight triumph over Elizabeth’s for a spot in Saturday’s final.
Naparima will not have it all easy against Pleasantville at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella at 3 pm in the South Zonal semis. Pleasantville edged Naps 1-0 in SSFL action on September 10 while Naps exacted revenge, winning their October 1 battle by a 2-0 margin. Winner of that fixture will meet the winner of the Vessigny-St Benedict’s clash in Monday’s final. Vessigny, inspired by the exploits of midfielder Hughton Hector, will be looking to pull the upset on the La Romain-based Benedict’s, who have won their two previous matchups 2-0 on September 5 and 2-1 on September 25.
