Ames moves up in world rankings

ALBERTA: Trinidad and Tobago’s Stephen Ames has crept into the top 100 golfers in the world after his ninth-place finish at the US $4.8 million Chrysler Championship last Sunday. Ames ended with a four-under par 280 total at the Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort Copperhead Course to equal the four top ten finishes he logged last year on the PGA Tour. Starting the Chrysler Championship at 103rd, Ames has moved up to 99th after his second top ten finish in two weeks following his fifth place at the Greensboro Classic in North Carolina on October 19. The 39-year-old Ames had also posted top ten places at the Bob Hope Classic in February and the Bay Hill Invitational in March, and has seen his year-to-date earnings climb to US $1,005,959 that places him 72nd on money list. American Tiger Woods remains in the number one position in the world rankings followed by Fiji’s Vijay Singh and South African Ernie Els.Singh, however, leads the money list with US $7,345,907 ahead of Woods with US $6,577,413 and fellow American Davis Love III with US $5,853,896.
