South East Zone cricket add Division Three

Due to the overwhelming interest shown in cricket in the South East area of Trinidad, the South East Zonal Council has been forced to bring in a third division for the 2004 season. Chairman of the zone, Azim Bassarath said yesterday the game in South East was thriving and a lot more youngsters want to play. “We cannot accommodate all the teams in the first and second division, so we are going to make a third division next season and the winning team will be able to move up,” he said. “We received a lot of applications from teams and we just could not turn our backs on them. We are in the business of promoting the game and when there is an increase in participation we must find ways to accommodate it,” he said. The 2004 season will open on January 25 at the Yolande Pompey Park in Princes Town. Representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) are expected to be on hand to meet the players before they clash in the first round of the Sunday League limited overs series. The teams will be playing in coloured clothing as a new initiative of the zone which has been touted as the best organised in the country.
