The Chairman set tongues wagging at Arima

HORSES stepped lively at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday, as trainers continued their preparation regimen for the Arima Race Club Day 35 programme.

Top Of The Class was seen relishing the wet/fast track, and completed a 600 metres gallop in a very comfortable 36.8 seconds. And as long as The Student keeps fit and well, it will be foolhardy to appose him winning the Caribbean Champion Stakes over 1800 metres on November 29. But he was outdone yesterday by fleet-footed two-year-olds All Set For Battle, Java In Style, Java Takeover and Salsa Moves who flashed across the same distance of ground in 35.9 seconds.

But The Chairman set tongues wagging when completing a 1000 metres run in the splendid time of 1:01.3 seconds. This gallop was just fractionally better than speedster Dutchess Trembley and Honour Bound who were clocked in 1:01.6 seconds. Ballybunion who had a short rest from racing showed some sparkle in a 400 metres run in 25.4 seconds. Smart And Lucky who raised some eyebrows when winning his first outing on a local track in record time, was begging for the bit when galloping 5600 metres in 40.8 seconds, being very easy at the end.
