Jabloteh stretch TT Pro League lead
THREE goals in the space of 13 minutes gave leaders CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh a 3-1 victory over South Starworld Strikers in Round 27 action of the T&T Pro League yesterday. Jabloteh’s 21st win of the season at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, pushed their points tally to 67 points, nine ahead of second-placed W Connection who were beaten 1-0 by Arima Fire at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima. Connection, conceded a 64th minute goal by Ramould Aguillera. Jabloteh, on the other hand, showed no mercy over the Southerners with ex-national midfielder Angus Eve scoring in the 20th minute, Under-23 and senior defender Nigel Daniel in the 25th and striker Cornell Glen in the 33rd.
Adrian Nunez’s 82nd minute effort was of little consolation for Starworld. Striker Christian Freitas got the winner in second half stoppage time as the “Eastern Lions” Joe Public edged South West Institute of Football (SWIF) 4-3 at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds. Keston Alexander gave the Lions a third minute lead before Kevin Hernandez netted twice, in the 50th and 52nd, to put SWIF in front. Devin Elcock equalised for Joe Public in the 54th but, seconds later, Hernandez completed his hat-trick to restore the lead for SWIF. Yet again, the Eastern Lions roared back through Tobago-born Garvin McKenna in the 59th before Freitas snatched the winner in the dying seconds. Defence Force remained fifth on the table after trouncing Tobago United 4-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva. Defence Force scored in the 4th minute through Shelton Williams and in the 22nd minute through Kerwyn Coa. The Tobago lads pulled one back in the 29th through Dane James but the Army-Coast Guard combination, despite a 70th minute power outage which lasted for 14 minutes, were not to be denied, and got further goals from Vincent Garcia in the 47th and substitute Owen Matthews six minutes from time.
