CONCACAF Congress 2004 in Grenada

ST GEORGE’S: Grenada will be the venue of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) 2004 Congress. This was revealed by CONCACAF president Jack Austin  Warner during a brief visit to the island recently as he promised an international football match involving two of the top nations in world football to coincide with the event. The Congress is scheduled for April/May and according to Warner will see some of the top names in world football during the last century among the 200 delegates and officials expected to attend.

Legends such as Pele, who is considered the greatest footballer ever, as well as Frenchman Michel Platini and German Franz Beckenbauer are among some of the specially invited guests for the Congress, which is held every two years. The last Congress was held in Miami in 2002. Warner, who was in Grenada to inspect facilities to be used during the Congress, said far too often in CONCACAF there is the belief that events such as this can only be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States. He added come April next year they will demonstrate that such events can also be held successfully in smaller countries such as Grenada.
