Free training for Rainbow Cup Triathlon

“Everybody, even if they can’t swim, cycle or run well, is invited to join us every Saturday morning at 6.30 am at Samaan Park, Chaguaramas, to begin the training,” said Jason Gooding, president of the RWTC, and head run-and-ride coach of the programme.

The swimming leg of the programme will be conducted by former Olympic swimmer Sebastien Paddington, at Marlins pool, after the run/ride session.

“All the sessions on Saturday will be free,” said Gooding. “But for those who might feel they would require extra training, we will be offering very special rates. “The idea is to get the athletes ready to be able to do the Sprint distance triathlon which includes a 750m, followed by a 20km cycle, and then a 5km run.

“Last year about 40 persons with Team Hope who had never done a triathlon in their lives before took on this challenge and all completed the Tobago race. It’s a challenge and an experience they can never stop talking about, and many of them are now hooked on triathlon and the benefits of cross-training.”

Gooding said that the group will also be asked to seek sponsorship for the venture, and the monies raised will be divided into a donation to a charity of their choice, paying for their trip to Tobago, and helping to pay for a week of sports and relaxation in the beautiful island of Bequia, in the Grenadines in early August.
